ISU Jackson Lake Dam Ramp Down Study

We are so grateful to all the volunteers including chapter members, guides, agency partners, local business owners, Jackson Hole High School students, and community members who joined us as citizen scientists and fish rescuers during this year’s fall Jackson Lake Dam ramp-down. Their efforts complemented the Idaho State University study supported by TU, Teton Conservation District, WGFD, Grand Teton Foundation, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson Hole One Fly, helping provide valuable information for water managers to better plan future ramp-downs for cutthroat trout and macroinvertebrates.

These dedicated volunteers spent days floating the Snake River, documenting fish and macroinvertebrate strandings in isolated pools as side channels became dewatered, and recording their observations in the TU RIVERS app.

After flows stabilized, we coordinated additional volunteer efforts to rescue fish stranded in isolated pools from Pacific Creek to Wilson, in partnership with WGFD and the Snake River Fund. The Jackson Hole News & Guide joined us in the field. Check out their coverage of our fish rescue day through the link in our bio!
