Conditions Update – 8/27/2026:
🌡️ Air temperatures have warmed again after a brief mid-August cool-down, and water temperatures at several monitoring sites are now peaking above 65°F daily. Monitor conditions and consider carrying a pocket thermometer to track temperature changes over the course of the day.
🌧️ Localized storms have boosted water year precipitation to 96% of average for the date. Storms over the past week delivered the most precipitation in town and the western portion of the watershed, including the Big Hole and Snake River Ranges.
🌊 Heavy rain events mobilized sediment on several tributaries, including the Hoback, Greys, and Flat Creek.
🌊 Natural flow on gaged tributaries remains low at 65-85% of average. Flow on the mainstem of the Snake remains very high for the date, due to above-average releases from Jackson Lake.
💧 Outflow from Jackson remains near 5,000 cfs. The reservoir is currently 30% full compared to 59% on average for the date. At the current draft rate, the Signal Mountain boat ramp may be inoperable by mid-September
💧 Outflow from Palisades was dropped to 9,500 cfs on Tuesday. Palisades is currently 11% full compared to 59% on average.
💧 Across the Upper Snake, the reservoir system is currently at 18% of capacity.
