Jackson Hole Trout Unlimited supported the Wyoming Game and Fish Department with the removal of non-native brook trout from Game Creek to help protect native Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat trout!
For the past several years, crews have been working to reduce brook trout, which compete with native cutthroat for food and habitat. Along with traditional removal efforts, the project includes a genetic management approach using YY brook trout to gradually reduce the invasive population over time. These fish only produce male offspring, and over time, this strategy can shift the population toward all males, ultimately leading to a natural population collapse.
